I couldn't put it down. The stories of being outdoors made me feel as if they were my experiences. It captures the the struggle in every persons heart that desires good but is weighed down with circumstance, the true 'Human Condition'.

Truly a book that you don't want to put down. Lots of interesting mountain characters, many situations that keep you on the edge as to how they will play out. Many emotions will be evoked throughout the book from beginning to end. Well written, really brought the characters and situations to life. A must read!
This is a coming-of-age story in the 70's (Vietnam War, leaving for college, first sexual experience etc.) I smiled and laughed and was moved to tears--proof that he captures the uncertainties and pain of growing up--our innocence and the the struggle to be "good" within the confines of our upbringing--no matter what the era or locale, and our eventual reconciliation with guilt and shame and our struggle to do, what we finally determine to be, the right thing. His story, beautifully told, brings us full circle and we arrive back where we begin, at the truth of life. I am left well-satisfied and encourage others to embark on this journey.
